Wim Hof ‘Freeze the Fear for Finola’

Friday 25th August 2023                1000 – 1230hrs to be held in Gullane

We are excited to announce our Wim Hof ‘Freeze the Fear for Finola’ event with all proceeds going to a replacement electric wheelchair for Finola.  For a £90 contribution you can become a participant of this wonderful event and learn about and experience the 3 pillars of the Wim Hof Method.  Alternatively we invite you to sponsor our brave participants who are:

Henrietta Forman (Finola’s mother), Bruce Forbes (Finola’s carer), Filip Vervaeke (Finola’s physiotherapist), Liz Henderson, James McAlpine, Vanessa McAlpine, Robin Meikle

Put yourself in the expert hands of our first female Wim Hof instructor in Scotland and now Level 2 qualified, Lorraine Mc Donnell.  Participants will learn the 3 pillars of the Wim Hof method:  breathing technique, cold exposure and commitment.  Find out how you can optimize body and mind and learn about the underlying physiology.

As this is a fundraising event we encourage all participants to raise £250 approximately or as much as you can or else a donation towards the brave team who will be conquering the ice bath at this event.

For individuals who have no prior experience with cold exposure, we recommend you finish your showers cold in the days leading up to the workshop.  Alternatively try a cold bath.

This event is suitable for ages 18 years + however it does require a basic level of health.  Out of precaution we advise against participation during pregnancy or if you are epileptic.  People with cardiovascular issues or any other serious health conditions should always consult a medical professional before starting the Wim Hof Method.

Should you wish to participate please email henri@finolatrust.co.uk

Please note places are limited.

To warm up after the event there will be a hot shower plus a BBQ!

We all know the NHS is struggling. As a disabled person’s family we saw funding issues several years ago when we had to come out of the NHS wheelchair service (2015/16). Funds were just not available and chairs being supplied were not meeting Finola’s needs (back pain/ posture/ lack of support affecting eating etc). We fundraised and eventually raised the money in 2017 to purchase a Quickie Jive spider track suspension electric wheelchair (her current electric chair) which has been the ‘best ever’ ! Total cost – £13,100

Finola is having an assessment in December by Motus Medical to find out possible costs based on her current needs for a replacement chair when needed, however at the moment we are aiming towards £15,500 . To raise this kind of money will take quite a while understandably to fundraise hence why we are starting the process now. This will ensure that when Finola needs it in the future the chair funds will be there and she will not lose her independence and have to go backwards to being immobile. To date as we had a surplus from previous fundraising for the adaptations for the Finola Trust Van plus received monies from kind supporters post the event, we will be starting with: THE ELECTRIC CHAIR REPLACEMENT FUNDS AS AT 25.11.22 = £4141.73

Plus funds from Kielder Water ZipCoaster Challenge held on 20.5.23 = 1923.60 (online) + 72 (cash) = 1995.60

Sub total 6,137.33 with a further 1000 promised donation still to be received (as at 31.7.23)

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us to date.
