WHY ARE WE FUNDRAISING FOR AN ELECTRIC CHAIR?
Raising funds to enable Finola to be independently mobile and able to take Orbit for walks over different terrains safely. To be able to adjust positioning for ease on her spine and to be able to view people at their own height!
Funds are also at the same time being raised for Canine Partners and 25% of all proceeds will be donated to the charity to assist them in their wonderful work.
Why do we have to fundraise for an electric chair for Finola?
When you reach 18yrs/19yrs old the adult wheelchair service standard is that only one chair is provided by the NHS – either a manual or electric chair? Only in exceptional circumstances will they provide both. Out of all the electric chairs Finola has ever received since childhood only one electric chair has been supplied by the NHS.
Currently the waiting time for NHS Lothian to receive a seating referral is 10 months (as at July 2017).
The aim is to purchase a state of the art electric wheelchair which would have the capabilities of the following:
High riser – to allow Finola to rise up to eye level and speak to people at their own height!/ to have a tilt in space chair so she can take pressure off her lower spine when needed by adjusting the positioning/ to travel over various terrains safely without tipping/ to be neat in its manoeuvring for ease of travelling ie on and off buses etc
The NHS have advised us that they WILL NOT be able to maintain the chair once purchased as their current contracts do not cover high risers. That there may be a possibility of help with the seating arrangement however this is still to be confirmed.
Finola was put on the waiting list in April for NHS Lothian wheelchair seating clinic and currently we are being advised that the earliest she would be reviewed is December 2017 however that is not confirmed.
Please help us to help Finola get mobile/independent again and at the same time support Canine Partners with their wonderful work. Thank you so very much for your kindness and support.
